Statement of Damages for Personal Injury in the Netherlands

What is a statement of damages and which items belong in it? Have your full personal injury calculated by a lawyer, at the insurer's expense.

Pain and Suffering (Pain and suffering compensation)

Pain and suffering (pain and suffering compensation (smartengeld)) is a collective term for other non-material damages. For example, you may no longer be able to pursue certain hobbies or have permanent visible injuries. This concerns damage that cannot be concretely calculated in another way.

This includes damage to vehicles, personal contribution to medical costs, clothing and telephone costs, travel expenses for family members, etcetera.

This is usually the largest damage item. If you are permanently limited in your earning capacity, you will receive immediate compensation for future damages over your entire future working period.
